I’m an American professor and new media theorist who researches technologies including open source software and collaborative multimedia development in the context of the history of publishing.
I’ve lived in a lot of places: I grew up in Alabama, went to college in Indiana (where I also studied abroad in London), did my doctorate in Pittsburgh, took a first assistant professor position for a few years in Seattle, and lived for twenty years in Ames, Iowa. (I loved our house there.) Now I live in Lubbock, Texas, where I’m flourishing.
I’m also a husband to a wonderful wife, Alisha, and a father of two amazing children, Quinn and Charlie. Oh, and we have two corgis, and three pet rats.
I love to hike, bicycle and play golf. I love drone-based aerial photography and videography. And I’m working now to re-learn playing tennis without embarrassment.
